HOUSTON – The Astros caravan stop at Texas Children's Hospital took on a special meaning for shortstop Carlos Correa.
Correa, who is preparing for Spring Training next month in West Palm Beach, was at the hospital Thursday and reunited with 14-year-old Angel Eduardo Rodriguez Cain.
“I saw this kid a couple of years ago in Puerto Rico when I was there,” said Correa on Thursday. “I see him here and he’s doing so much better.”
Rodriguez Cain, who is from Puerto Rico, is in Houston battling acute lymphoid leukemia.
“A year in the hospital you don’t get many visits,” Rodriguez Cain said with a smile. “Seeing him here today is a dream come true for another child.”
Correa said visiting with patients like Rodriguez Cain is humbling.
“Sometimes we complain about a sore ankle or sore shoulder and stuff like that,” said Correa. “Kids are going through tough times and makes you appreciate what you have even more.”
Rodriguez Cain’s mother, Denise Cain, is also in Houston.

She was touched by Correa's support in recent months as the two built their friendship.
When asked about Correa’s visit and his friendship with her son, she was emotional.
“He was feeling so good. I know he’s happy, he’s very happy,” she said.
While Correa’s reputation is growing rapidly on the field, he continues to match that dedication off the field.
Being a role model, and one that gives back, is a priority for the Astros young star.
“I can’t even describe it. It’s better than hitting a home run I tell people,” said Correa. “Your bringing joy to people’s lives and your making someone’s life so much better.”
The Astros Winter Caravan tour continues Friday with their Foundation Gala and then Saturday, players and staff will attend Astros Fanfest at Minute Maid Park.
