HOUSTON – Two men were arrested and charged after a drug raid at a home near a northwest Houston high school, Harris County Precinct 1 constable's deputies said.
A third person was taken into custody but is not facing charges.
Investigators raided a home Thursday in the 3900 block of Cortlandt Street, just outside the boundary of Booker T. Washington High School, deputies said.
Barry Dixon, 37, and Craig Ross, 44, are facing charges of of possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver, enhanced by proximity to a school. An additional charge of felony possession of a firearm was filed against Ross.
Constable Alan Rosen held a news conference Thursday to outline the details of the investigation.
"Kids have a hard enough job and doing what is expected of them, not to have to compete with a drug dealer across the street from their school when they're learning or walking and talking," Rosen said.
The investigation at the home began about two months ago after Rosen witnessed what appeared to be an drug deal illegal drug transaction in front of the house while he was touring the high school, investigators said.
Constable's deputies stopped a car for a traffic violation near the home and the driver, who is a nurse, confessed that she bought methamphetamine there, deputies said.
Precinct 1 installed a hidden video camera nearby for the next several weeks and had the nurse return to the home, according to investigators.
During the execution of a search warrant at the home, deputies found guns and what appeared to be heroine, crack cocaine, meth and codeine inside.
