Another woman tied to search for remains in southeast Houston

HOUSTON – An investigator out of Denton in North Texas was in Houston a few weeks ago. Denton police want to know if the disappearance of a woman there is connected to William Reece. He is the man who has been at the center of a nine-day dig.

Kelli Ann Cox, 20, is the latest victim to be connected to William Reece.

The University of North Texas student disappeared in July 1997 after she made a call from a pay phone near the Denton Police Department.

Reece is considered a person of interest in that case. Cox is now the fourth missing woman connected to Reece.

A fifth victim, Sandra Sapaugh, was kidnapped by Reece, but managed to escape.

She testified against Reece and helped convict him. Each case happened in the late '90s.

Investigators brought Reece here from prison to help them search for human remains. He's been at this site three times in handcuffs.

But after almost 9 full days of digging, detectives have found nothing.
Sources say crews are searching for the body of 19 year old Jessica Cain, who also disappeared in 1997.

A few months before Jessica disappeared, 12 year old Laura Smither vanished. Her body was found soon after. Reece was a suspect in the Smither case, but was never charged.

Reece was recently charged in Oklahoma with the 1997 kidnapping and killing of 19-year-old Tiffany Johnston.

Police said the case remained unsolved until Reece's DNA matched evidence found at the scene of the teen's slaying.
