Driver charged in deadly hit-and-run of motorcyclist in east Houston

HOUSTON – A man is under arrest in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a motorcyclist in east Houston.

Jose Carlos Garza, 26, is charged with failure to stop and render aid.

According to police, Garza was driving a Dodge Challenger at a high rate of speed when he hit the rear of a white Suzuki motorcycle in the 13400 block of the East Freeway on Aug. 24, 2014.

The motorcyclist, Matthew Hough Jr., 21, was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Garza fled after the crash, and then abandoned his vehicle just before John Ralston Street, police said.

Garza was identified as the suspect after further investigation.  He was arrested on Monday.
