4 pedestrians struck by vehicle after driver slams 2 parked cars

MATAGORDA BEACH, Texas – Four pedestrians were hit by a parked vehicle that had been struck by a pickup truck Sunday on Matagorda Beach, officials said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a man driving a 2005 Toyota Tundra was driving south on FM 2031 at a high rate of speed when he drove through a parking lot and struck two parked vehicles, causing one of them to hit the pedestrians.

Officials said three of the victims were flown to Memorial Herman Hospital with serious injuries. The fourth was taken to Matagorda Regional Hospital by emergency medical services personnel to be treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the Tundra, Devonte Roshawn Frank, 23, reportedly failed to adhere to posted warning signs indicating a reduced speed and that the road ended in 500 feet.

Frank was arrested and taken to Matagorda County Jail. He is charged with reckless driving.
