Sheriff Brett Stassi of Iberville Parish said, "Thankfully, with all the crawfish and fish biting, we were able to find the body almost immediately."

According to the sheriff, it was a fisherman who discovered Ferrell's body in the water.

The coroner says she was strangled and bludgeoned to death before being dumped off the interstate and into the water.

"At this time, we know of no reason other than a road trip that brought her to Louisiana," said Stassi.

Relatives say Ferrell was a young mother with two children, a 5- and 1-year-old.

They say she would travel to Louisiana a few times a year, but hadn't mentioned she was going this time.

They also say she kept to herself, but would frequently game online and believe she may have met an acquaintance that way.

Still, they have no answers as to who would do this to her or why.
