District attorney's office launches new push to find man charged in 2010 murder

HOUSTON – There is a new push to solve a cold case: The Harris County district attorney's office is looking for a man charged in an alleged murder cover-up.

Police said Jose Guerrero was out on a $100,000 bond when he fled before his trial was set to start. He is charged in the 2010 murder of Maria Escamilla.

Escamilla was found shot dead in an apartment building on Broadway near Detroit Street in southeast Houston.

Thursday was the fifth anniversary of her death.

Escamilla's family gathered to remember the woman whom they miss dearly and to talk about the missing man.

"When they told us he jumped bail, it was a relief because we always knew he did it. So it's incriminating himself, so it was kind of a relief that he jumped bail," Jonthan Escamilla, Maria's son, said.

If you have any information on Guerrero's whereabouts, you're asked to contact police.
