Wrong-way driver causes deadly collision on I-45

HOUSTON – All mainlanes were closed Sunday morning on I-45 southbound at FM 1960 after a wrong-way driver caused a deadly accident. 

According to officials a man driving an SUV northbound in the southbound lanes of I-45 crashed head-on into a man driving a car south on I-45 near FM 1960 around 5:45 a.m.

After the collision, the wrong-way driver's vehicle caught fire while he was trapped inside. 

According to authorities, the wrong-way driver died at the scene.

The man in the other vehicle was in serious condition and he was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. 

It is unknown at this point if the wrong-way driver was under the influence.

Officials have not released the identity of either man.
