Volkswagen America CEO resigns amid emissions scandal

The head of Volkswagen America is resigning in the aftermath of the automaker’s emissions cheating scandal.

Volkswagen faces fines upward of $18 billion from U.S. authorities for falsifying emissions tests on its diesel vehicles. U.S. CEO Michael Horn announced his resignation on Wednesday. The scandal has already forced the ouster of the overall head of VW, Martin Winterkorn, who resigned last September, shortly after the scandal broke.

In other business news, Chicago-based United Airlines is redoing the cabin on some of its jets to squeeze in more seats. According to USA Today, the airline will retrofit 19 of its Boeing 777 wide-body planes to squeeze in 10 seats across.

Under the new setup, the seats will be in a 3-4-3 configuration in coach. That will add an extra seat to each row and bring in more revenue.
