HOUSTON – Mayor Sylvester Turner issued a call to action to help the thousands of flood victims in Louisiana.
Turner spoke to Mayor Kip Holden of East Baton Rouge Parish this week and recruited several faith leaders to open their churches as collection sites for essential items.

These organizations will be collecting items until Sept. 6 and the city of Houston will arrange to transport the items to Baton Rouge by Sept. 9
This flood is the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Hurricane Sandy four years ago. Red Cross officials estimate damages to hit more than $30 million.
