UTMB Health Athlete of the Week: Clear Creek’s Tyler Austin

Wildcats Senior tossed no-hitter in playoff win vs. Alvin

HOUSTON – This Week’s UTMB Health Athlete of the Week honor goes to Clear Creek Senior pitcher Tyler Austin. Clear Creek, a perennial baseball power in Houston, advanced in the playoffs and Austin was a big part of their success.

Austin got the start in Game 1 of Clear Creek’s first round series vs. Alvin and promptly tossed a no-hit gem in a 7-0 victory. Funny part about it was that he was so locked in, that he didn’t realize the no-hitter was thrown.

“We got the last out and afterwards my teammate handed me the baseball and I had no idea why,” said Austin during a recent practice. " He said you just threw a no-hitter man and here’s the baseball!”

He’s a senior for Head Coach Brent Kunefke and has been a leader in the Clear Creek program for four years.

“He has done a great job for us and led on the field. He’s a great pitcher and that no-hitter and the way it ended was something.”

Austin led Clear Creek to a 24-6A District Championship this spring as the Wildcats finished 9-2 in district while going 23-12 overall after their series loss in round two of the playoffs to Atascocita.

Congrats to Clear Creek’s Tyler Austin for being our UTMB Health Athlete of the Week!
