UTMB Health Athlete of the Week: Kingwood’s Leilani Garcia

Wildcats Senior tossed no-hitter in playoff win vs. Alvin

HOUSTON – This Week’s UTMB Health Athlete of the Week honor goes to Kingwood’s junior second baseman Leilani Garcia.

Garcia has been an absolute slugger for the Mustangs’ softball team this season, hitting .472 with 12 home runs and 45 RBI. With great offense and defense throughout the season, she has played a pivotal role in Kingwood’s state tournament run.

“I feel like we had a slower start to the season, and we’ve grown as a whole and come together,” Garcia said. “I feel like that’s what’s making us win more. We trust and believe in each other.”

KHS softball head coach Christina Williams-Yates said Leilani’s consistency has been vital in helping the Mustangs string together wins.

“Leilani has been probably our top hitter that we’ve had in district,” Williams-Yates said. “She’s just that quiet, unassuming kid who just does her job.”

Congrats to Kingwood’s Leilani Garcia for being our UTMB Health Athlete of the Week!
