Joey Loperfido headed to big leagues, sources tell KPRC 2

HOUSTON – Astros prospect Joey Loperfido has been called up to the big leagues, multiple sources tell KPRC 2.

Loperfido, an outfielder and 1st baseman, is ranked as the #6 prospect in the Astros system by MLB Pipeline. Few players have had as much success in the minor leagues early in the season as Loperfido, who hit another home run Sunday, giving him 13 on the season, which leads all of professional baseball.

Loperfido picked up buzz after a strong spring training both on the field and in the clubhouse, drawing rave reviews from those within the organization about his readiness and professionalism.

Loperfido has hit .287 with 13 home runs in 35 games. His OPS is 1.106, leading the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

The 2021 7th round pick out of Duke has a minor league OPS of .886, with 52 home runs in 276 minor league games.

Loperfido is currently not on the Astros 40-man roster, which will require a corresponding move.
