HOUSTON – Astros right-handed starter Luis Garcia will have Tommy John surgery to fix a torn ulnar collateral ligament, the Astros announced Friday.

Garcia left his start on May 1 in the first inning with discomfort in his elbow, and an MRI determined surgery was necessary. Garcia is expected to return at some point during the 2024 season, according to the team.
