HOUSTON – Hey guys, it’s Ari Alexander with the Houston Texans who are preparing for the NFL Draft now that the scouting combine is finished. The Texans will have to be wary of what the Bears do with the No. 1 pick, but are likely to find a strong QB somewhere.

JIMMY G?

With almost everyone in the new Texans staff coming from the 49ers, will they pursue Jimmy Garoppolo? According to new OC Bobby Slowik, Jimmy G is a part of the evaluation process. The former New England Patriots and 49ers QB has familiarity with basically everyone in the Texans building and has won as many playoff games (four) as the Texans have in franchise history, despite never really standing out at the position.

If the Texans would pull the trigger on Jimmy G, it would likely be in a transitionary role and would not stop them from drafting say a Bryce Young.

BIJAN AT 12?

Local radio host and former NFL QB Sean Salisbury brought up an interesting point in a tweet, saying the Texans should pick Texas RB Bijan Robinson at 12 because of his “alien skill set.”

On its face, I’m on board -- I’m a huge fan of Robinson and have known him since he was a freshman at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Arizona. Robinson will be a superstar NFL player and superstar community role model and ambassador. He’s basically the perfect draft pick.

HOWEVER!

The Texans have a strong running back already in Dameon Pierce, whom they chose in the fourth round in 2022. Taking Robinson at 12, when you can get most of the value of what he brings several rounds later, doesn’t make sense, especially for a team with so many holes.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Texans will attend numerous Pro Days to scout players and figure out who they would like to draft to fill their many weak spots.
