This is a shot of the front that went through today. The clear sky to the left is north; the dark clouds to the right are south. Shot in Clear Lake City a little after noon today (Monday).
While admiring this afternoon the bluebonnets alll over Exploration Green park in Clear Lake City, I noticed a pair of butterflies visiting many of the blossoms. They are a variety of Fritillary, which are fairly common in Texas.
A honey bee works over a new bluebonnet this afternoon -- Exploration Green park, Clear Lake City.
A cardinal visits the snow-covered birdfeeder mid-day on Tuesday (Clear Lake City)
Part of the frontal system? Looking to the east at about 4 pm in CLear Lake City today (Tuesday).
A late-summer sun sets over the Galveston Channel this evening. The battleship USS Texas can be seen on the right.

Just after sunset - Exploration Green - Clear Lake City.
Sun setting this evening (Wednesday). Clear Lake City.
Mars and Jupiter are very close this week. This shot shows the two planets in the eastern sky this morning (Wednesday). Mars is at the upper left, and Jupiter is just below center with three of its Gallilean moons (from bottom right to upper left: Ganymede - Europa - Jupiter - Callisto). Shot captured with 600mm telephoto.
Some color in tonight's sunset (Exploration Green, Clear Lake City).
USS Texas to thank . . . . I was just up in Philadelphia taking a drydock tour of the battleship USS New Jersey, which is preserved as a museum ship in Camden, NJ. It has been in drydock at the Philadelphia Navy Shipyard for the first time in many years. The ship was built during World War II and is much larger than the battleship Texas -- about twice the tonnage. I'd mentioned to one of the New Jersey's staffers that I'd also visited the Texas when it was out of the water last December, and she remarked that the good experience with the USS Texas drydock tours is what encouraged the New Jersey's organization to offer the same sort of public access for their ship while it is high and dry. How about that?
Although the Bluebonnets seem to have peaked, the Lemon Beesbalm plants are starting to put on a show now (Exploration Green, Clear Lake City)
Recently saw this black swallowtail butterfly on the bloom of a bull thistle (Clear Lake City).
A flock of cormorants heading back to the roost at sunset this evening (Clear Lake City)
Totality this afternoon over Round Rock, TX, north of Austin. This photo was intentionally underexposed to show what appear to be solar prominences on the left, bottom, and right of the moon.
Spring is here -- bright blue Japanese Irises waterside in Exploration Green (Clear Lake City)
Visible above the wavy cloud front at sunset is a mere sliver of new moon. Seen from Clear Lake City.
At sunset, a wavy cloud front in the distance almost looks like a mountain range -- not something often seen in Houston. Seen in Clear Lake City.
A one-day old Moon hangs over the western sunset this evening.
Just a few of the countless Indian Blanket flowers now blooming in Exploration Green (Clear Lake City).
A trio of Indian Blanket blossoms accentuate each other. Exploration Green in Clear Lake City.
