Union Pacific cleans up overgrown vegetation along southeast Houston rail line

2 Helps You

After nearly three weeks, 2 Helps You first went to Southeast Houston to visit Mark Johnson and Rudy Garza; they are finally getting the help they need.

When we first met them, they showed us the Texas jungle invading their backyards.

The residents said the weeds were growing out of control because, as they claimed, Union Pacific wasn’t maintaining the area.

“The weeds are growing into my chain link fence now, and I have to constantly trim them back.”

It did not take long to see exactly how thick the vegetation had become, with weeds growing through the opening in the fence line and stretching deep into the area along the tracks.

2 Helps You questioned Union Pacific.

Within days, the rail giant went to work.

“It looks wonderful, thanks to you,” said resident Mark Johnson.

The cleanup was extensive, and land was cleared along the rail line, stretching well beyond the area immediately behind the residents’ homes.

“I think it was three days after you came out that this was done, which is crazy. We’ve been trying for months to get something done, and you get it done in three days. It’s remarkable,” said Johnson.

The work continued over the course of about a week, transforming an area that had been overgrown and neglected for quite some time.

“We are just so grateful for you coming out here and getting this done. It was unbelievable, unbelievable that you can get things done so quickly. So, I am really grateful for that,” said Johnson.

For the residents, the difference was immediate, and a problem they had been trying to solve for months was quickly addressed after contacting 2 Helps You.

Important to note, the residents did everything they were supposed to do. They reached out to the city. They contacted Union Pacific as well as others, but at every turn they did not get the answers they wanted.

In the end, they finally reached out to us.

We weren’t their first call, but we ended up being their last.
