The Lamar CISD Police Department is reminding students, parents, and guardians of the rules on riding to eBikes and other motorized vehicles to school.
The district says legal e-bikes are allowed on campus if they have functional pedals and meet state speed limits ,generally 20–28 mph, depending on the class. The district also noted that riders of Class 3 e-bikes — which can reach 28 mph and have a speedometer, must be at least 15 years old.

Police warned that many products marketed as “e-bikes” do not meet the legal definition under Texas law. These vehicles are not allowed on public roadways or school property.
The district says the following types of vehicles are prohibited.
- ATVs - All-Terrain Vehicles
- OHVs - Off-highway Vehicles
- Electric motorcycles
- Electric mini-bikes
- Pocket bikes
- Similar high-powered motorized devices
Lamar CISD Police added all students are also expected to follow traffic laws on school grounds, including any requirements involving helmets, licensing, permits, registration, and insurance.
If a student rides a prohibited motorized vehicle to campus, Lamar CISD police said they will notify administrators and contact a parent or guardian to pick it up.
Families with questions about whether a specific vehicle is allowed are asked to contact their school’s administration before sending it to campus.
The first day of school for Lamar CISD is Tuesday, August 11th.
