HOUSTON – A passenger was killed, and a driver was critically injured after a vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire along Memorial Drive Monday morning, according to Houston police.
The crash happened around 12:38 a.m. when a white sedan was traveling eastbound on Memorial Drive. Investigators said the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and struck a tree.
The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire.
Houston Fire Department crews responded to the scene, extinguished the flames, and transported the driver to an area hospital in critical condition.
A passenger in the vehicle died at the scene.
Authorities said the victims are believed to be one male and one female, though their identities have not been released.
Due to the extensive fire damage, investigators have not been able to determine the make or model of the vehicle.
