KPRC 2 & UTMB Health Athlete of the Week: Brazoswood’s Ali Rios

CLUTE, Texas – This Week’s UTMB Health Athlete of the Week honor goes to Brazoswood’s sophomore shortstop Ali Rios.

Rios was a key contributor in the Lady Buccaneers’ postseason softball run. She hit a grand slam home run to knock off the Pearland Oilers, who were defending state champions.

“I’ve been playing since I was very young, so it’s always been a passion,” Rios said. “I never lost the love for it.”

Brazoswood softball head coach Laura Oltman said Rios has all the physical tools to excel in the sport, but it’s her positive mentality that gives her the biggest edge.

“Ali is a really good competitor,” Oltman said. “She plays the game with a lot of joy. She doesn’t let big moments get to her or take it too seriously. She has all the tools—the speed, the arm, the power.”

Congrats to Brazoswood’s Ali Rios for being our UTMB Health Athlete of the Week!
