Funeral services for Harris County Deputy John Coddou who was killed helping at a crash on Grand Parkway

A Celebration of life was held Wednesday for Harris County Deputy John Coddou III.

Coddou was hit and killed on the Grand Parkway, on April 23 while he was assisting at the scene of a minor crash.

He was hit by a truck and according to investigators, the driver had been talking on his phone, hands-free.

They say the driver hit Coddou when they swerved to avoid crashing into his vehicle.

Coddou was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The 20-year veteran of the department was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Coddou is survived by his wife and mother.

After funeral services, Coddou will be laid to rest during a graveside service at Forest Park Southwest Cemetery along FM 395 in Richmond.
