A Celebration of life was held Wednesday for Harris County Deputy John Coddou III .
Coddou was hit and killed on the Grand Parkway, on April 23 while he was assisting at the scene of a minor crash.
He was hit by a truck and according to investigators, the driver had been talking on his phone, hands-free .
They say the driver hit Coddou when they swerved to avoid crashing into his vehicle.
Coddou was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died from his injuries.
The 20-year veteran of the department was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Coddou is survived by his wife and mother.
