But the IRS announced Wednesday that eligible Texas taxpayers can use a new service to make the experience much simpler.

IRS Direct File will allow taxpayers to electronically file directly with the IRS for free.

Users can file their tax return on a mobile phone, laptop, tablet or desktop computer.

Texas is one of 12 states eligible for the pilot program, but only taxpayers with relatively simple returns can apply.

To see if you qualify, you can visit IRS.gov.

This new service is available until the tax filing deadline April 15.
