Investigation underway after Galveston murder suspect found dead in Oklahoma jail

GALVESTON – The suspect in the murder of a Galveston man in February was found dead in an Oklahoma jail on Wednesday, according to the Galveston Police Department.

James Biesenbach, 54, was arrested Monday in Creek County Oklahoma on a warrant issued by the Galveston District Attorney’s office for the murder of his long-time acquaintance, James Heflin, 54.

Heflin was found dead in his home in the 1800 block of Avenue N1/2 on the morning of Feb. 27, 2024.

Galveston investigators received word on Wednesday that Biesenbach was found dead while in custody at the Creek County jail.

Biesenbach was facing a $1 million bond in the case.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the cause of Biesenbach’s death, and the Galveston Police department said that the investigation into the death of James Heflin remains open.
