Ask 2: What advice do you have for young parents who are teaching their teens how to drive?

HOUSTONAt KPRC 2, we’re dedicated to keeping Houstonians informed. As part of our Ask 2 series, the newsroom will answer your questions about all things Houston.

Ask 2:

“What advice do you have for young parents who are teaching their teens how to drive?”

Answer:

I always like to say keep it Triple P-G! Plan, Practice, Point, & Give.

  • Plan your route ahead of time: Driving in Houston is already unpredictable. So, planning could lessen the stress of uncertainty.
  • Practice in an empty parking lot: The open space will give your teen a calm setting to learn the basics like adjusting mirrors and making turns.
  • Point out bad habits & explain: When you see other drivers breaking the rules, point them out! It’s a great way for them to see it first-hand.
  • Give them the gift of grace: Remember, this is new for them! Put yourself in their shoes.

Remember, if you have a question, you can email ask2traffic@kprc.com and we’ll work to get you an answer.
