14-year-old allegedly shot, killed man who may have been trying to break into several east Harris Co. homes

Members of the HCSO homeless outreach team shared that the deceased man may have been unhoused at the time.

CHANNELVIEW, Texas – A man was reportedly shot and killed by a 14-year-old after neighbors said he had been knocking on doors and possibly trying to break into homes in one east Harris County neighborhood.

The shooting happened in the Clover Leaf area in the 14400 block of Brownsville on Thursday morning.

Investigators said they received two calls within six hours, from different homeowners, about the suspicious man around 6:50 a.m. Those homeowners said that the man had been asking them for money, and appeared to have been wearing a backpack and gloves.

At some point, the man reportedly knocked on the door of a home where a 14-year-old was inside alone, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said the teenager’s mother had just left, heading to drop off other children, and that the father was also away at the time.

Officials said the teenager grabbed a pistol and fired several times outside. The man was hit and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Gonzalez said that the teen fired five to six shots.

The HCSO homeless outreach team said that at first look, it appears the deceased man was an unhoused individual that they’ve dealt with in the area in the past.

The teenager is reportedly cooperating with law enforcement officers at this time. No charges have been filed.
