Driver taken in for questioning after passenger possibly shot inside vehicle on Southwest Freeway

HOUSTON – A man was hospitalized Friday morning after bullets rang from inside or outside a vehicle on the Southwest Freeway, according to the Houston Police Department.

The shooting was reported around 8:40 a.m. at 5200 U.S. 59.

Police said the passenger suffered from gunshot wounds to the chest, possibly from inside the vehicle. Officials said the driver was not injured in the shooting and pulled over.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Investigators also found a shot gun that was reportedly thrown over the freeway, in the grassy area.

Police said the driver was taken in for questioning but not cooperating.

The shooting is not believed to be a road rage incident.

Several lanes were closed on the freeway as police investigated the scene.
