According to Orkin, Houston jumped up 10 spots from last year’s study -- now ranked No. 20 out of 50 cities.

Orkin says the top “rattiest” city of 2023 is Chicago, along with New York City and Los Angeles.

The study, which was performed between Sept 2022 to Aug. 2023, is based on the number of new rodent services on demand, and the efforts that residents and businesses of each city have taken to treat rodent issues.

“Rodents multiply swiftly and when an infestation is left unattended, they can cause extensive damage to homes and yards,” said Ben Hottel, an Orkin entomologist. “Rats are capable of squeezing into spaces through holes as small as a quarter, which makes it especially important to seal cracks from the outside.”
