16-year-old shot, killed outside strip center in north Harris County, HCSO says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Investigators were trying to determine who shot and killed a 16-year-old in north Harris County Sunday evening.

The shooting took place outside of a commercial strip center in the 22900 block of Imperial Valley Drive around 3:30 p.m.

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies said the teen was meeting up with someone in the parking lot when he was killed.

Detectives have surveillance video that shows the boy talking to someone in a grey Volkswagen Passat when, for some unknown reason, someone inside the car began shooting.

“We are not exactly sure what he was doing. We don’t know if it is drug-related or how he came to interact with the people in the vehicle. We know that he had been in the parking lot for some time and had interacted with several other vehicles prior to this one,” Sgt. Jason Brown said. “As of right now, we are trying to figure out what he was doing out here, what his motive was when he was meeting with these people.”

It’s unclear how many people were inside the vehicle, which didn’t have any license plates.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
