Woman dead in apartment fire in northwest Houston, HFD says

HOUSTON – Houston firefighters have found the body of a woman inside an apartment in northwest Houston after extinguishing a blaze Friday, officials said.

HFD responded to a report of an apartment on fire at 6200 W. Tidwell around 3:48 a.m.

Firefighters said when they arrived at the scene, they found one unit that was on fire. Officials were reportedly able to extinguish the flames.

According to investigators, the woman was found dead inside the unit. HFD is investigating to determine how the fire started.

The woman’s identity has not been released, but residents told KPRC 2′s Re’Chelle Turner that she was a “cool lady.”

Keyanna Jackson lives in the upstairs unit and says she and her four kids were woken up by smoke and ran outside. She says it’s unfortunate what happened to the victim.

“Just lived down there with her two dogs. She was the cleaning lady and she cleaned these apartments when somebody moves out,” Jackson said.

People are urged to avoid the area at this time due to emergency traffic.
