HOUSTON – Meta said in a news release and in emails to users on Wednesday that it will stop supporting the ability for sellers to create vehicle and real estate/rentals listings using a Facebook business Page as of Jan. 30, 2023.

The social media giant added that the vehicles tab and manage inventory tab will no longer be supported in markets where this feature is currently available.

The free person-to-person listings for vehicle, real estate and rentals listings will still be available on Marketplace, the company said, adding that the ability for businesses to reach audiences via ads is also not changing.

“We are simply changing how to distribute inventory,” the company said in its release, adding that impacted markets include vehicles in the U.S., Canada, France, the U.K., Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Germany and Australia. Real estate or rental listings are impacted in the U.S. only.

As an alternative, Meta said people can continue reaching vehicle and home buyers or home renters on Facebook by creating Marketplace listings from your personal profile: You can create Marketplace listings for vehicles, home sales and home rentals from your personal profile. The company also shared information targeted at how real estate businesses and auto dealers can use the social media giant’s platform.

Meta did not offer an explanation for the changes.

In 2022, the company’s Marketplace has been the subject of numerous reports concerning scams, including our own report about a vehicle scam that targeted a single mom.
