Bennett said the man and his girlfriend arrived at his stepfather’s home and at some point, they began arguing about a dog.

Both the stepson and his girlfriend attempted to force their way inside the home, and that was when, investigators said, the stepfather grabbed a gun and shot his stepson in the chest.

The stepson was taken to an area hospital where he later died. His girlfriend was not hurt.

The stepfather was taken into custody by police at the scene.

Investigators have obtained video evidence from the scene to review what led to the shooting.
