KATY, Texas – A pedestrian was reportedly hit and killed by a driver who authorities believe was under the influence near the Katy Freeway early Sunday morning.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the passenger was hit in the 21800 block of the Katy Freeway on the eastbound service road near Mason.
Investigators with the HCSO Vehicular Crimes Division said they believe the victim was sitting or standing on the west embankment of Mason Creek Drive around 12:35 a.m. when a 2016 Ford Edge left the roadway and reportedly “traveled over him in the air.”
The pedestrian was hit by the Ford before it came to a full stop in the east embankment, Gonzalez said.
Authorities say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of that Ford was said to have been a 21-year-olf woman who had to be taken to the hospital by LifeFlight for her injuries following the crash.
Gonzalez said the suspect is believed to have been driving while intoxicated.
