Family releases identity of 21-year-old found shot to death in NW Harris County parking lot

CYPRESS, Texas – Authorities are investigating after a man was found shot to death in a parking lot in the Cypress area Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting in the 20100 block of Rustic Lake Lane around 2:10 p.m.

When officers, arrived they found the man, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the head, in the back seat of a grey Dodge Charger.

Family members identified the victim as 21-year-old Diontre Barnes.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said they believe Barnes was shot at a separate location, an adjacent neighborhood in the 19700 block of Swan Valley, then was driven to a Starbucks, where he was pronounced dead.

Four other people, who had been in the Dodge with Barnes at the time of the shooting, told detectives that they were at the original location when someone in a light-colored SUV approached them and fired several times at them.

Police said the shooting is not believed to be a case of road rage and is believed to be gang related at this time.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is asking that anyone with information about this case to call the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers of Houston.
