KPRC 2 Senior Scholarship: Radhani Kapoor’s service abroad inspired her to serve her local community in an important way

KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with scholarships in 2022. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.

The twelfth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Radhani Kapoor, who will be graduating from Katy High School in Katy Independent School District.

Kapoor holds a number of leadership positions on campus including student council president, National Honor Society treasurer, and Interact Club president. She’s also president of Choir Council and captain of the varsity swim team.

While those accolades alone are impressive, one of Kapoor’s most notable achievements is the non-profit tutoring organization she cofounded during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The idea for the organization called “Walking With You” came in part because of opportunities Kapoor had volunteering internationally.

“I had the opportunity to volunteer at underprivileged schools in Cambodia and India, help construct libraries, make breakfast for children, and play with them during breaks,” wrote Kapoor in her scholarship essay. “The organizational and leadership skills I built left me itching to make a difference on a larger scale. This came to a head during COVID, when I saw how many students (often those who needed it most) couldn’t afford the tutoring they needed to succeed in this new learning environment. The breadth of interests I had developed while moving around the globe served me well in helping students, from first grade English to Calculus, for my non-profit tutoring company.”

“Today, ‘Walking with You’ continues to thrive, and the gratitude we receive from students and parents is extremely humbling,” wrote Kapoor.

In college, Kapoor plans to study math and data analysis with a goal of using what she learns to take part in innovative research and ultimately contribute to solutions for global issues like food insecurity and disparities in education.
