15-year-old shot in northeast Houston parking lot, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas – Houston police are investigating after a teenager was shot on Monday evening.

HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said officers were dispatched to Vickery Drive around 7:15 p.m. after receiving a report of the shooting.

Officers found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the abdomen area, Crowson said.

Police said the victim and two of his friends told them that they were in the parking lot of an apartment complex when a vehicle drove by and at least one shot was fired from that vehicle.

Crowson said the victim and his friends walked to the front of the complex and flagged down a Suburban for help. They waited there until the fire department arrived.

The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to police.

“They said he was conscious and alert when he left,” Crowson said. “The gunshot wound didn’t seem to have hit any vital organs. Of course, we won’t know that for sure until he gets to the hospital and the doctor’s check.”

Police said the description of the vehicle was vague and that they are still working to gather more information.
