Juneteenth proponent Sheila Jackson Lee discusses day’s federal holiday recognition

Lee and others celebrated Juneteenth becoming a federal holiday at Emancipation Park

HOUSTON – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and several prominent Houstonians met at Emancipation Park on Friday to celebrate the recognition of Juneteenth as a federal holiday.

Lee, a longtime proponent of Juneteenth recognition, was the lead and original sponsor of the House Bill HR 1320, the first Juneteenth National Holiday bill to be introduced in this session of Congress.
