US Army soldier dead, another injured after dispute escalates to gunfire in central Texas

NOLANVILLE, Texas – A soldier is dead and another was injured in what authorities said was a dispute that escalated into gunfire.

U.S. Army officials at Fort Cavazos, formerly known as Fort Hood, said the shooting happened off Highway 190 near the city of Nolanville around 8:25 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities said the two soldiers got into an argument off base. The argument escalated into a shooting with one of the soldiers dying and the other being taken to a hospital.

Authorities have not released what happened before the fatal shooting in a ditch along the highway.

The identities of the soldiers have not been released, but their families have been notified.

Officials confirmed the two soldiers were active duty troops in the 1st Cavalry Division.

Army CID investigators are assisting Nolanville Police with the investigation.
