Texas officer charged after police dog dies in hot car

MCALLEN, Texas – A San Juan police officer has been charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals after investigators say he left his K-9 partner in a hot car.

Officer Juan Luis Cerillo Jr., 37, was arrested Saturday after McAllen police officers found that Rex, a Belgian Malinois, had died in Cerillo's police unit, according to a McAllen Police Department press release.

Cerillo's bond was set at $4,000.
