Suspect in custody after leading police on high-speed chase in La Marque

LA MARQUE, Texas – A man was taken into custody after leading police on a high-speed chase, which ended in a crash, in La Marque.

The chase began in Texas City and ended when the suspect crashed at an I-45 underpass near Alley Girl.

The suspect was seen driving the wrong way down I-45 at one time. Eventually, he was able to escape officers.

Police then learned that the suspect's vehicle crashed in the 1000 block of I-45. The man, identified as Matthew Ramirez, was arrested.

Police said Ramirez had his 3-year-old daughter with him in the vehicle during the chase. She suffered minor injuries and was released to a family member.

According to police, after Ramirez, 24, crashed, a man stopped to help, unaware that Ramirez was involved in a chase.

The man told police that Ramirez was trying to persuade the man to take him and his daughter away from the scene. Police said a physical confrontation occurred when Ramirez tried to steal the man's vehicle before officers arrived.

The man suffered minor injuries.
