Houston Whole Foods Market recalls items over salmonella concern

Recalled Chicken Spring Roll, Peanut Sesame Noodles were sold from Kirby Drive store

HOSUTONWhole Foods Market is recalling two premade items, Chicken Spring Rolls and Peanut Sesame Noodles, sold in its prepared food department in the grab and go section and at the full service chef's case at one Houston store, due to possible salmonella contamination in the peanuts used as an ingredient.

The recalled items were sold Sept. 27 and 28 at the store at 2955 Kirby Drive.

To date, no illnesses have been reported related to these items. This recall is in response to a recall by Sunland, Inc., whose recalled peanut butter has been connected to 30 illnesses in 19 states.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection wit.

Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Chicken Spring Rolls
UPC Number: 225757203997
with a sell by date of 10/1 or 10/2

Peanut Sesame Noodles
UPC Number: 222099604192
with either a sold on date of 9/27 or 9/28 or a sell by date of 10/1 of 10/2

These products were sold in a clear 8-ounce to 16-ounce clamshell container from Sept. 27- 28, 2012. UPC and sell by dates may be found on a white sticker on the bottom or the side of the container.

Signage is posted at this Whole Foods Market store to notify customers of this recall. Consumers who have purchased Chicken Spring Rolls and Peanut Sesame Noodles from this location should discard them, and may bring their receipt to the place of purchase for a full refund.
