The (First!) Heights Newsletter😊

I am excited to bring more Houston Heights news straight to your inbox!

19th Street in the Houston Heights (Nicole Nielsen for KPRC2)

Hi there! I’m Nicole Nielsen, and this newsletter is your direct line to someone whose full-time job is to help you stay more connected to what’s going on here in the Heights and surrounding neighborhoods. But honestly? My best stories start with you, because YOU are the community!

Every edition is built around you. These are your questions, your frustrations, your wins, your concerns. When you reply to this email, leave a comment, or send me a note, you’re not shouting into the void. I’m paying attention! (honestly... sometimes maybe too much. 😂)

I do my best to answer every single one of you. Sometimes a single message uncovers a great story. Other times, I start seeing a pattern in the questions you’re asking, and that’s when I know it’s time to dig deeper.

I also want to highlight the good stuff too. The people making a difference, the hidden gems, and the resources that can actually help you.

Think of me as your own on-the-ground accountability reporter. I live and work in this community too. I’m in the neighborhood every day, and this newsletter is how you can tap me and say, “Hey Nicole, can you look into this?” The stories, guides, and updates I share come directly from what you tell me you want to know more about. Not every story is breaking news. In fact, most aren’t. Sometimes the most important stories are the ones that have been frustrating people for years. Asking why something hasn’t changed is often how change starts.

My favorite days are the ones where I can actually see the impact a story has made. I can’t always promise change, but I can promise to ask questions, look for answers, and shine a light on issues that matter.

Between newsletters, you can always find me on my Instagram or on my Facebook. That’s where I’m sharing daily updates, asking for your input, and posting things as they happen.

So now that you have this direct line... tell me what’s going on by responding to this email! I can’t wait to hear from you.
