KPRC 2′s anchors and reporters confront tough questions daily. Recently, they were dealt a different kind of difficult question – A query so hard to answer it had several puzzling and puzzling for days. The question: “What’s your favorite holiday tune?”

Though it required some tough choices, we assembled a definitive list of our team’s favorite holiday songs. These are the Christmas classics our team grew up decorating trees to, the cheery tunes that give us warm feelings, the songs that live rent-free in our heads all month long.

Frank Billingsley’s pick: “O Holy Night” by Josh Groban

“It’s so hard to sing really well (most Christmas songs are pretty simple)….and when someone can really belt that one out, it’s spiritual!!”

Sabirah Rayford’s pick: “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt

“I love the melody and the playful tone Kitt uses to sing the song. It’s also makes for a great karaoke performance!” I even sang it on our morning show.”

Rose-Ann Aragon: “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”

“My favorite song is ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree!’ It’s upbeat, I love the musical key changes, and it really gets you in the holiday spirit. Christmas classics are the best!”

Keith Garvin’s pick: “Wonderful Christmastime” by Paul McCartney

“It’s been my favorite Christmas song since I first heard it more than 20 years ago because it’s such a fun song that captures some of the joy of the holiday!”

Haley Hernandez’s pick: “Joy to the World”

“My favorite classic Christmas song is an upbeat Joy to the World. For me, it brings up all the feelings of tradition and the real meaning of the season because it reminds me of the last song you sing during candlelight service.”

Anavid Reyes’ pick: “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey

For me, it has to be Mariah Carey’s ‘All I want for Christmas’ --annoying to many, but it makes my heart light up! This time of year, you’ll hear me say ‘Alexa, play ‘All I want for Christmas by Mariah Carey’ like 10 times a day.”

Vanessa Richardson’s pick: “This Christmas” by Donny Hathaway

“I love “This Christmas” by Donny Hathaway because it’s such a fun and feel good song. A lot of Christmas songs are soft and somber. This one is joyful, which I love.”

Khambrel Marshall’s pick: “Little Drummer Boy”

“Calming, melodic, sincere, with the unique story told of the birth of Christ from the little drummer boy perspective.”

Re’Chelle Turner’s pick: “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” by Jackson 5

“I’ve always been a fan of Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5. The song makes me get up and dance around the house lol! I know all of words! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!”

Syan Rhodes’ pick: “O Holy Night”

“My longtime favorite Christmas song is ‘O Holy Night.’ The lyrics beautifully encapsulate the reason for the season!”

Mario Diaz’s pick: “Somewhere In My Memory” by John Williams

“It’s a song that we play to officially kick of the holiday season in our home. It’s from my wife’s favorite holiday movie as a child, Home Alone. In recent years it has become my son’s favorite holiday song. It’s a lovely song that warms our hearts. Happy Holidays!”

Lauren Freeman’s pick: “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”

“My favorite Christmas song is ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’. I love all Christmas music but this is definitely one that I look forward to hearing! It’s simply a beautiful song that embodies the celebratory meaning of Christmas.”
