Astros celebration Friday for Craig Biggio's Hall of Fame selection

HOUSTON – Craig Biggio is headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame and now the Houston Astros and Biggio want you to join in the celebration.   

The team will hold a celebration at Minute Maid Park Friday.

It starts at the Union Station lobby. The atrium entrance and team store open at 3 p.m., the lobby opens at 4 p.m. and the event starts at 5 p.m.

Biggio will become the first Astros player ever elected to Cooperstown. He joins Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz in the class of 2015.

Biggio appeared on 454 ballots, 42 more than the 75 percent needed and up from 68.2 percent in his first appearance and 74.8 percent last year. He had 3,060 hits in 20 big league seasons, all with the Astros.

Jeff Bagwell fell short of the required 75 percent of the vote with 55.7 percent. Mike Piazza had 69.9 percent.

Roger Clemens garnered 37.5 percent.
