Houston Texans rank #9 on Forbes' 2016 most valuable NFL teams list

HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have moved from #7 to #9 on Forbes’ 2016 list of most valuable NFL teams.

The 2016 list was released on Wednesday, and the Texans were ranked #9 on the list, with a value of $2.6 billion.

The change in rank on the list does not mean that the Texans have lost value; instead, there was a gain of $100 million from 2015.

Sport, market, stadium and brand are all taken into consideration when determining the value of each team. The Texans’ 14 consecutive sold-out seasons are the most by any professional sports team in Houston history.

According to Forbes, the revenue of the Texans for 2016 is $416 million with an operating income of $129 million.

The following are the Forbes top 10 most valuable teams in 2016:

  • Dallas Cowboys - $4.2 billion
  • New England Patriots – $3.4 billion
  • New York Giants – $3.1 billion
  • San Francisco 49ers – $3 billion
  • Washington Redskins – $2.95 billion
  • Los Angeles Rams – $2.9 billion
  • New York Jets – $2.75 billion
  • Chicago Bears – $2.7 billion
  • Houston Texans – $2.6 billion
  • Philadelphia Eagles – $2.5 billion
  • Forbes contributes new stadiums and relocation as driving factors to explain why the NFL values are 19 percent higher this year. As for the Texans, the team value increased by 4 percent from last year.

    The individual NFL team values for 2016 average around $2.34 billion.
