Houston Super Bowl Host Committee begins search for 10,000 volunteers

HOUSTON – The Houston Super Bowl Host Committee opened its Volunteer Recruitment Center at GreenStreet on Monday to start the process of creating a special team of 10,000 volunteers, who will serve as hometown ambassadors for the more than 1 million attendees expected to celebrate Super Bowl LI in Houston this February.

The Host Committee’s volunteer program is designed to provide a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and guests attending activities in late January 2017. BBVA Compass stepped up to support the volunteer program as a way of helping one of the bank’s most important communities as Houston gears up to host professional football’s biggest game.

“Our mission is especially important when Houston goes under one of the brightest spotlights in sports,” said BBVA Compass Chairman and CEO Manolo Sanchez. “Volunteers will help give visitors to our city an experience that will live bright in their memories.”

The Recruitment Center will have nearly 15,000 potential volunteers come through its doors for face-to-face interviews between Aug. 22 and mid-October.

Volunteers will be positioned throughout the city and activities will include way finding, manning information desks, and various duties at Super Bowl LIVE, a 10-day fan festival which will be the Host Committee’s signature event leading up to the Big Game.

“Volunteers have the power to make everyone’s experience during Super Bowl LI a great one,” Host Committee President and CEO Sallie Sargent said. “Hosting an event as large as the Super Bowl requires a tremendous commitment from the entire community and, once again, Houstonians have stepped up to represent their city. We also want to thank BBVA Compass for their dedication to making an exceptional experience for Houston through their support of the Host Committee Volunteer Program.”
