Two new charges have been brought against Gloria Williams, including failing to provide food or medical aid to her 8-year-old son, Kendrick Lee, before he was beaten to death by her partner Brian Coulter.

Harris County Assistant District Attorney Celeste Byrom said that Williams did not act as a mother, despite being highly aware of her partner abusing her child.

“The allegation in this charge is that Gloria Williams failed to provide adequate intervention knowing that there was an injured child in her household and she failed to intervene when there was abuse,” she said.

The second indictment accuses her of neglecting to provide food or medical aid to Lee, before he was fatally beaten.

“She failed to get medical treatment for that child and so it led to the death of that child,” Byrom added. “That’s when it became apparent that we needed to do an additional charge involving Gloria Williams.”

The children of Williams aged 10, 12, and 17 who survived Coulter’s abuse testified at his trial.

One of the other cases involving Williams’ child (identified only as T.L.) was also re-indicted after a review, Byrom said. This came after reviewing previously filed charges and finding that additional charges were warranted, so the case was re-indicted and a $1 million bond was set for Williams.

“After the codefendants trial, we decided it would be appropriate to add an additional charge involving deceased victim (Kendrick Lee) that’s a first-degree injury to a child. The bond was set at $500,000,” Byrom said.

Punishment for the two new charges ranges from probation to 99 years or life in prison. During William’s next court date on May 23, there will be a pretrial conference where a trial date will be set if the case cannot be resolved.

According to Byrom, two additional charges are pending that have not been refilled, including a third-degree injury to a child case and a second-degree tampering with a corpse case.

Earlier this month, a judge found Brian Coulter guilty of killing his girlfriend’s 8-year-old son, saying even with all her experience, this is one of the most horrific cases she’s ever heard.
