May the Fourth be with you at the annual PDASH fun run supporting youth in recovery

HOUSTON – For more than 50 years, Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP) has dedicated itself to helping teens and young adults overcome the challenging effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

PDAP was founded in 1971 by Father Charlie Wyatt-Brown, the rector of Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church. They were the pioneers in developing a nationally recognized Alternative Peer model, which looks at the social, psychological, and emotional conditions of teenagers struggling with substance abuse. Its purpose is to help them build an enjoyable social life in a safe and healthy environment, free from the influences of drugs and alcohol.

However, substance abuse doesn’t affect a single person. It’s a ripple effect that impacts the lives of family and friends.

“Every day became more unmanageable than the next,” said PDAP Parent Trip Friend.

But his primary concern was to help his daughter be healthy. That’s when PDAP came in with a safe place for his daughter to interact with like-minded individuals and create positive relationships. You can listen to his full story in the video above.

Supporting teens and young adults to achieve sobriety is a collective effort. You can help PDAP in their mission this Saturday, May 4, at their annual PDASH fun run. This year’s theme is ‘Run with the Force’ since the event coincides with Star Wars Day.

So, wear your running shoes and dress up as your favorite Star Wars character. Doesn’t matter if you’re channeling the light or dark side. At the event be part of the force and sprint for the youth on their road to recovery.
