Flash Flood Watch until 4am Saturday for Matagorda, Jackson counties

HOUSTON – Forecasters warned people along the Southeast Texas coast of more heavy rain which could lead to more flash flooding.

The area has been plagued by days of off-and-on heavy rain, which has caused several inches of water to flood homes in some coastal towns.

The National Weather Service extended a flash flood watch until 4 a.m. Saturday for Jackson and Matagorda counties.

Here's the official statement from the Weather Service:

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for
.. Portions of south central Texas and southeast Texas...
including the following counties...in south central Texas...
Coastal Jackson and Inland Jackson. In southeast Texas...
   Brazoria Islands...Coastal Brazoria...Coastal Galveston...
Coastal Matagorda...Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula...
   Inland Matagorda and Matagorda Islands.
   .. Through late tonight
.. Bands of showers and isolated thunderstorms will be redeveloping
offshore and near the coast overnight. Training heavier cells
within the bands may produce high rainfall rates. Considering
that area grounds already saturated and tide levels above
normal, any additional heavy rain will runoff to produce street
flooding that could be slow to drain.
   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
