Strong storms head over the Gulf; 40% chance of rain this afternoon

HOUSTON - Umbrellas are needed today as rain and thunderstorm activity continues Sunday.

The rest of the morning there is a 60 percent of rain. This afternoon, we will have a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms. The strongest storms have passed and are now heading over the Gulf.

Today will mostly cloudy to start then partly cloudy this afternoon.

Highs will be in the upper 70s. Houston should hit around 79 degrees. Galveston expect a high of 78 degrees.

Tonight, there is only a slight chance of a stray shower around the region. Should be mainly partly cloudy.

Monday, there is a 20 percent chance of rain but nothing severe. Highs in the low 80s.

Tuesday will be warm and muggy with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 80s.

Rain chances go up Wednesday to 30 percent as a cold front gets closer.

As of now, the front is expected to cross Halloween day delivering a 50 percent chance of showers. At night, it will be just a slight chance.
