Is tropical system developing in southern Gulf?

HOUSTON – The National Hurricane Center has upgraded the chance of some form of tropical development to 60 percent during the next five days in the southern Gulf of Mexico and Yucatan Peninsula.

While there is some disagreement in the weather models about placement of any eventual storm, the threat of a hit along the coast of Texas is extremely low.

A strong area of high pressure is dominating the weather pattern across the Southern U.S. and would likely steer any storm into Mexico over the next five to seven days.

The KPRC 2 Severe Weather team will continue to monitor any new updates and developments and provide new information as it becomes available throughout the weekend.

Track the tropics any time by visiting the Hurricane Headquarters page of Click2Houston.com or by downloading the KPRC 2 Hurricane Tracker app on Apple or Android devices.
